I’m a great-grandfather and retired community organizer. Over the course of 2020 and 2021, with the help of good friends, I produced a video memoir. Its title is Power of Story: An Organizing Elder’s Memoir. This website is a gateway to those videos, and some other creations of mine.

STORY-TELLER’S INVITATION

The memoir, The Power of Story, covers the arc of my eighty-four and one-half years.

Its stories convey:

—My inner and outer development, as family member, community organizer, descendant and ancestor, and white male, in addiction and recovery.

—The importance of early childhood, “mediating institutions,” and radical listening.

—Capitalism’s assault on Earth’s systems as our primary context.

—Suggestions, from within that context, for surviving—and how organizing might evolve.

My intent is to be useful—especially if you are engaged in organizing or considering it, especially if our Crisis is heavy in your heart and mind.

I welcome critique and thoughtful comments.

If we will have the wisdom to survive…

This is no paradisal dream.
Its hardship is its possibility.
